About Our Brake Repair Services for Trucks & Fleets
Common Brake Services
If your heavy-duty truck is having brake problems, a technician will address them using different techniques. These include checking s-cam play and brake adjustment, changing worn brake pads and shoes and fixing damaged bearings.
How Do I Maintain My Drum Brakes?
Brake Pads
Maintaining your drum brakes is a matter of changing out your brake pads once they’ve cracked or fully worn down. Unfortunately, unlike automobiles, there aren’t many symptoms to look out for with respect to worn brake pads. This is largely due to your slack adjusters. To ensure your drum brakes work effectively regardless of how much life is left in your pads, your slack adjuster will take up the slack as each pad wears down. This means you’ll have full braking power at all times, and must get your brake pads measured manually.
Slack Adjuster Calibration
Although slack adjusters are automatic, they are known to malfunction if you get into a collision or if they wear down over time. At PNS Truck Repair, we’ll readjust and calibrate your slack adjusters to ensure your brakes function as they normally should.
Signs That You Need Brake Repair Services
It’s easy to tell when something feels off or different after driving your truck for an extended period. Look out for the following signs to determine when to get your brakes examined:
- If you find yourself putting more pressure on the brake pedal to slow down or stop, and your truck takes longer to stop than it normally would. Brake wear or fluid leaks may be present.
- Screeching sounds when applying the brakes are a clear sign that something is wrong.
- Your diesel truck may use a warning light to signal an issue with the brake system. If you see such a light, take your truck to a repair shop immediately.
- Pay attention to uneven wearing or pulling as your brakes can be the source of the issue.
